Toy Hauler Loading Tips
Toy haulers have a built-in cargo bay that makes bringing your powersports vehicle along on your RV trip a cinch. However, incorrectly loading your powersports vehicle can result in damage to it or your RV. That is why the exports at Mountainland RV have created this guide to loading your toy hauler.
Distribute the Weight
The key to a smooth toy hauler towing experience is proper weight distribution. 60% of the total weight needs to be in front of the front axle, while the remaining 40% should be behind the front axle. If necessary, you may need to balance out the weight of your powersports vehicle by putting more weight toward the front of your toy hauler. You will also need to balance the weight distribution from left to right. Not doing so could result in uneven tire wear and more difficulty controlling your tow vehicle.
Loading
Once you’re confident that you’ve got the weight balanced out properly, you can set up the ramp. In most cases, your toy hauler’s gate will double as the ramp, though this is not true for all models. Regardless, try to load on level ground at a low angle if possible for an easier loading experience. Carefully drive your powersports vehicle up the ramp and shut off the engine.
Secure Your Vehicle
Now it's time to secure your powersports vehicle using ratchet straps or D-ring tie-downs. Make sure that everything is tightly secured by giving it a few tugs. Otherwise, your vehicle might shift around during transit, messing up your weight distribution and potentially damaging both your vehicle and the toy hauler itself.
