How to Winterize Your RV

If you're like most RVers, you probably can't wait to hit the open road as soon as the weather starts to warm up. However, it’s important to winterize your vehicle for the off-season months. The Basics

Winterizing your RV isn't difficult, but it does require some basic knowledge of how your RV works and what needs to be done to keep it running smoothly. You’ll want to check your owner’s manual for specific information and instructions regarding your model. 

The Checklist 

1. Drain all the water from your RV's fresh water tank and then add RV antifreeze to the tank. This will prevent the water lines from freezing and bursting during the winter.

2. Empty all the water from your RV's gray water and black water tanks. This will prevent septic issues down the road.

3. Disconnect your RV's battery and store it in a safe, dry place. This will prevent it from collecting moisture and freezing, which can damage your RV's electrical system.

4. Cover your RV's air conditioner with a tarp or piece of plywood to protect it from the elements.

5. Put all of your RV's food away and clean out the fridge and freezer to prevent mold and mildew from forming. Make sure to keep the doors open!

6. If you have slideouts, make sure to put them in and check all the seals. Reinforce any sealant as needed and keep the moving parts greased. 

7. Finally, make sure you have a good insurance policy in place in case something does go wrong during the winter months.
